So, this story took place nearly one decade ago (2008), when I was but a young personal trainer, at a small personal training studio.

Our marketing guru, Gabby, was out of town for a few weeks.

I will never forget the day she returned though.

I was training my client Melanie. We had been working together for about a year.

Gabby hasn’t seen Melanie for a while. When she walked into the training studio, she took one astounded look at Melanie, and excitedly proclaimed:

“WOW. Melanie, you look great.”

And, Gabby meant it. Melanie did look great. Everyone could she the profound change in physical her appearance.

That look of pure gratitude on Melanie’s face is something I will never forget. That single sentence meant the world to her and boosted her confidence 100 times over.

But, what was even more impressive than her weight loss, was her overall boost in confidence.  

When her and I first met, she was going through a tough divorce, working full time, grinding through an MBA program, and raising two kids, by herself.

Needless to say, working out wasn’t high on the priority list. But she kept coming in, day in and day out.

Slowly we shifted the tide from weight gain to fat loss.

Over time she replaced some bad habits with better ones. Basically, she crushed it. She was determined to succeed, and you know what, she did.

By the end of that first year Melanie’s confidence beamed like rays from a lighthouse piercing through the darkness of night.

She was kicking ass and taking names. Not only did she lose 40 lbs, but she crushed her MBA program, got promoted, started dating again, and I think started enjoying life a lot more too.

But, customization doesn’t = rigid structure. Far from it.

This is how I run my fitness coaching:

Workouts are designed personally for you, to fit within your actual life. This approach sets you up for success, and helps adjust the workouts as life gets busy or less busy.

We build small, steady habit change. Changing just 3 or 4 key habits in your life can provide serious progress. Slowly, we work to change one habit at a time. This approach isn’t sexy, but it sure as heck is effective.

Mandatory accountability check-ins. I ask that you update me with progress, at a minimum, every two weeks.

More often is better. If you fail to meet this requirement twice, I will refund your money, and ask you to leave the program.

This may seem harsh, but I take your results very seriously. However, if you don’t, we are not going to be a good fit for each other. Plain and simple.

I give you my cell phone number.

Email is great, but sometimes you want an instant reply.

All my personal coaching clients have my cell phone number, and can text, or call me, anytime with questions.

And, that’s really about it. 

The secret formula is figuring out how to make fitness and nutrition mesh within the context of your actual life.

This flexible workout model, combined with constant communication and making small changes has been the keystone for my client’s past success.

Again, I take your results very seriously. This approach may not be viewed as trendy, sexy, or “the hot new thing”, but guess what, it works.

Q. How much does this cost?
A. $88, billed every two weeks.

Q. Why is it so expensive?
A. Let me put this in perspective…

To hire me for one hour at the gym will cost you $90.

Hiring me at the gym for just two personal training sessions will cost you $180. That is already more than the monthly price tag for online coaching.

However, with online coaching you get a month of personalized workouts, for less than the cost of hiring me for two hours at the gym.

I’m no mathematician, but this is a good deal.

Also, ask yourself what is the cost of staying the same?

How much emotional currency are you wasting by thinking about making a change, but continuing to watch from the sidelines?

Q. Will I be able to call you if I have questions?
A. Yes. All my personal training clients get my cell phone number.

Q. Are there any contracts?
A. No. You can stop whenever you choose. However, for best results, I ask clients to stay with me for a minimum of 3 months.

Q. How many clients do you train?
A. Ten, max.

Personal training requires a commitment from both of us. To ensure I deliver my clients the best results possible, I limit myself to ten personal training clients at any one time.

Because of this there may be a short waiting list when you apply. This is normal, but never takes more than a few weeks for a slot to open up.
